THREE SMOKIN’ FOLK TALES by JEFF GERE

AWARDED ‘HONORS’ as one of America’s BEST STORYTELLING RECORDINGS, 2007 by STORYTELLING WORLD
This CD is HOT! (66 burnin’ minutes). Aerobic storyteller JEFF GERE is joined by LES ADAM (keyboard), SANDRA LEE AKAKA (percussion) & ALANA CINI (didgeridoo) to create this gripping, surprising sound/story EVENT!
OLD RINK RANK (12:13) Take a defiant teenager, a possessive King and one small slip, and you get a princess in a deep hole with a gross, grimy guy. But the STORY is how she gets OUT … and the FUN!
A BEAUTY, A DEVIL, & A SHEPHERD (23:22) A handsome stranger carries the beautiful girl to Hell… and back! A shepherd’s joke sets the devil free. 30 years later, the demon repays the favor. Will the shepherd allow an evil king to go to hell?
JACK & THE EVIL MOUNTAIN SPIRIT (31:17) For 3 terrifying nights Jack confronts the Evil Mountain Spirit, learning answers to riddles to free the oppressed Princess. Good and evil collide, and love emerges!
The explosive storyteller JEFF GERE pulled off the road driving to the studio to make this CD. “The Kahului Shopping Center was BURNING! The SMOKE was too INTENSE to drive through! WOW! That changed my set list- I told FIRE STORIES and we visited story HELL!
Les, Sandra Lee, and Alana had never heard these tales, and Alana had never met me. The stories are old friends, but within their incredible sound-scapes, the stories grew and pushed my telling in startling ways. WE TOOK OFF! The room caught FIRE! You can hear it- an exceptional thing happened- four artists REALLY LISTENED, WENT DEEP, and DIDN’T HOLD BACK. The funny, quirky, vitality in this CD delights me. Hear for yourself
THIS IS NOT FOR LITTLE KIDS! If you’re under 10 yrs. old, these stories are too INTENSE (and for a few of you kids in their 40s)! Really.

Rank Devil Mountain FEEDBACK
I was delighted by the sheer power and energy of your rocking ‘Devil’ CD! I laughed out loud! And listened with my jaw dropped to the speed and ferocity of your telling! Cool, OH GREAT FIRE BREATHING STORYMAKER! Megan Wells, teller in Chicago Ill.
Your RANK DEVIL MOUNTAIN CD is in the car player and we listen to it every time we drive anywhere (which is always in LA!) It’s SO MUCH FUN! We even put it on at home and all sat down (sons 16, 26 and girlfriend) and listened- I love what you’re doing with your storytelling- Bravo!
Suzanne Shoemaker, Acts of Creation Productions
Yo, Jeff. You’re a veritable whirlwind of fun and worthwhile activities. Thanks for the new RANK DEVIL MOUNTAIN CD. Great choice of stories. I’ve only heard the first two cuts, and sit compelled to get off a note pronto - I loved your making this CD! Whatever vitamins you take, I want some!

Wow! What a rollicking, artful, delightful performance! I appreciate the political commentary imbedded in the tales too. As we say in Maine, "some wicked good, Jesum Crow!!" Looking forward to listening to more. Michael Parent, Pro teller in Maine
Your CD is a mixed bag for me. I loved Old Rink Rank, but the Shepherd, a story I like a lot, had parts that were so manic I found myself tuning out. Jack was constantly at too much of a full tilt for me. I felt I was being shouted at for half an hour. I think top energy is best used as a spice, not the bulk of the meal. It leaves you no place to go when you want to accent something, and exhausts your audience. Kathryn Fairlee, Northern California teller/friend
Storyteller Gere steps outside Hawaiian folklore with gruesome tales of horrible monsters, resourceful heroes, a nice princess and a nasty one. The usual lines between good and evil blur in these stories. Each successive story is longer and more explicit than the one before. Gere is engaging throughout as he plays both narrator and characters. Alana Cini adds the primeval didgeridoo to the mood-setting musical tones of Les Adam (keyboard) and Sandra Lee Akaka (percussion). Gere warns “this CD is not for kids under ten”. Good call, Jeff!
